2023

24 Miles to Home: A Rehabilitation of Time and Space is an audiovisual recreation of the final section of a journey undertaken in my youth. Made with drone imagery over canals and rivers in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, this durationally extensive work considers the possibility of meditation through its contemplative beauty. This represents my own nostalgic experiences and offers a simulation of that engagement for others.
Tracking serene scenery starts just beyond Stenson Lock, and at an almost tediously somnolent pace, it ends at Langley Mill, inferring an almost dreamlike state from a disembodied perspective.
This intimately immersive work goes beyond mere pleasurable aesthetics and considers communities that reject the enslavement of Capitalist conformities and normative uses of productive time, despite its origin being seated in the Industrial Revolution.
This work hopes to invite its audience to engage with it as reflexively as they wish so to enjoy its visuality and eschew observations to our socio-political conditioning and obligations to time well spent.
